January Program: The 75th Anniversary of the Founders Memorial Garden

Location: Athens-Clarke County Library, Appleton Auditorium

Date / Time: 1/26/2014 3:00 PM

Founders Memorial Garden celebrates its 75th birthday in 2014!

At the time of its creation, Founders Memorial Garden was the largest project undertaken by any state garden club.  The site is also recognized as a major influence on the creation of the landscape quality of the UGA campus.  This antebellum residential area -- house, kitchen building, smokehouse -- reflects different aspects of campus history: faculty residence, women's history (home of first Dean of Women; Phi Mu chapter house; headquarters for the Garden Club of Georgia).  John Waters, professor in the University of Georgia's Historic Preservation program, will discuss the Garden's history and Diamond Jubilee activities.

Also on the agenda is the AHS 2014 Annual Meeting, where a vote is scheduled for changes to the society's by-laws.

Please join us at 3:00 pm on Sunday, January 26, 2014, in the Appleton Auditorium at the Athens-Clarke County Library.
